The importance of being bio psycho social

We all know that a patient’s attitudes and beliefs affect their behaviour and play a role in slow recovery from injury and illness.  But what if the stumbling block is actually our own beliefs and behaviour? Bishop et al (2008) suggest that heath care professionals’ (HCP) attitudes can impact on their patients in terms of the advice they give about activity and work.   Whether or not practitioners work within a biomedical or a biopsychosocial framework also appears to play a role in terms of health outcomes.  Read Julie Denning’s article from Occupational Health Physiotherapy March 2013.
