CANCER DOESN’T DISCRIMINATE SO WHY SHOULD AN EMPLOYER?

Colin Hawes (Head of Group Income Protection Claims and Medical Underwriting at Generali Employee Benefits UK) asked our Director, Julie Denning to contribute to another piece of writing around supporting employees getting back to work after serious illness.

As Colin says, “Cancer now represents the main cause of claims across all group risk products – life, income protection and critical illness cover – but thanks to treatment and support improvements, more people than ever are surviving cancer. So why, although able to get back to work, do many people struggle to return to – or stay in – employment? And why, despite the Equality Act 2010, do many still face discrimination?”
